December 18, 2013                                                Tallahassee, Florida

Since March of 2008 rules have been in place to allow pharmacists who have completed special training to administer influenza vaccines to Florida patients.  In 2012 the Florida legislature expanded the law to also allow for both the pneumococcal as well as the shingles vaccines.

The Florida Pharmacy Association has available on its web site information to support pharmacists' practice in this area.  Visit this link to gain access to those tools.  Also the FPA office will receive questions on the provision of immunization services to pregnant women.  The Center for Disease Control has available an excellent resource to assist pharmacists when faced with questions related to vaccine services for these patients.  Please visit this link for more information.
