The Agency for Health Care Administration and Coventry Health Care of Florida have reached a settlement in a dispute about Medicaid managed-care contracts, with Coventry slated to receive a contract in Miami-Dade and Monroe counties, new filings show. Coventry, along with other health plans, filed bid protests after AHCA awarded contracts as part of Florida's shift to a statewide managed-care system in Medicaid. AHCA awarded contracts in September to varying numbers of plans after a competitive selection process in 11 different regions of the state. Coventry filed protests in all 11 regions. But documents filed Monday in the state Division of Administrative Hearings indicate that AHCA has agreed to award a contract to Coventry in a region that includes Miami-Dade and Monroe, while Coventry has agreed to drop the bid protests. The contracts are an important part of AHCA's efforts to carry out a 2011 law that eventually will lead to almost all Medicaid beneficiaries enrolling in managed-care plans.
