November 1, 2013                                                               Orlando, Florida

The Florida Pharmacy Association facilitated a meeting of pharmacy stakeholder groups in Orlando, Florida to discuss various issues affecting the practice and business of pharmacy.  Present at the meeting of the Advisory Council on Pharmacy Practice were representatives from nearly all of Florida's pharmacy schools, FSHP, FPA, prescription drug wholesalers and also government regulators.  Dialog included some discussion on policy decisions related to pharmacy issues reviewed by the 2013 Florida Legislature and to consider ideas that may be introduced during the 2014 legislative session.

Key leaders in various pharmacy disciplines considered issues such as but not limited to telemedicine - telehealth, pharmacist provider status, immunization training of pharmacy students, pharmacy auditing and PBM regulation and funding Florida's prescription drug monitoring program.  The purpose and intent of the Advisory Council on Pharmacy Practice is to gather pharmacy stakeholder groups to work to form consensus on policies that affect pharmacist services.

In a show of gratitude the group expressed thanks to the staff at Amerisource Bergen of Orlando for allowing the use of their facility for the meeting.  It was also shared with the group that the Orlando Amerisource distribution center manager Joe Brecko (photo right) was retiring after 50 years of service to the wholesaling industry.  The FPA extends best wishes to Joe as he transitions into other things.
